Footballing week

-

What a week of football, European Champions League final with two English Premier league teams competing for the trophy.
A great game which ended in a penalty shoot out which Man Utd won. So a great double with winning the Premier League, again with Chelsea in the runners up spot.

Of course we had a Man Utd party and even our young lab Fergie got involved. He really liked his Beckham top which is only one of many Man U tops my son has had over the years.

There was also the Scottish Cup final between Glasgow Rangers and Queen of the South. Quite a good game with Rangers going 2-0 up before half time only to find that two goals in three minutes by QOS early in the second half put the game back in the melting pot. Rangers, courtesy of a second goal from Boyd held on for a 3-2 win.

All this football has prompted my football mad son and his pal to build their own little pitch. With a set of old goals and a pot of white paint they marked out the lines and a penalty spot.

Wonder what will happen when wimbledon starts - will we be getting a tennis court.

Lost dog

-
While out walking my two labradors we were joined by a very friendly puppy. After a few moments I realised there was nobody with the dog. Usually when a dog goes astray there is someone shouting its name but nothing was heard. The pup got on really well with my dogs so we carried on to the car but still no sign of the owner. There was a tag on the collar of the lost dog with a mobile phone number, my mobile was at home on charge, so thought at least we could all go home in the car and phone from home. After a while walking up and down the road and speaking to another dog walker who had not come across anyone else while out we set off for home. The lost pup was easy to get in the car and got on ok with my dogs even when we got home to a drink of water and some biscuits. The owner was relieved to get the phone call and came and collected the pup. What an exciting morning.

Flatbed Scanning Negatives

Scanning negatives and slides on a flatbed scanner can be quite challenging. The cost of a dedicated scanner is way out my league so I was interested in reading this article on making a device for providing the light from above the strip of film. Once I have tried this out I will let you know about the results.

Samsung Europa

Recently spent a while researching current mobile phones to replace my outdated bar type phone. The criteria was     To have a method of posting to Twitter and Facebook     Camera, not necessary high spec     Email     Web browsing     GPS     Android system     Last but certainly not least the ability to make     phone calls and texts At the end of the search there was the Samsung Europa. Next thing was to find a network provider and went for Tesco Mobile, intending to use the Triple Credit PAYG. While buying the phone there was an offer of 500 mins, unlimited text and web for £10 per month on a rolling one month contract - so went for that.  Since getting the phone I have discovered a bug which repeats received text messages. Samsung are aware and intend having a firmware update sometime January 2011. Last night I downloaded the Samsung Kies so...
